PHARMACOVIGILANCE

It is the set of public health activities that have as their objective the identification, quantification, evaluation and prevention of the risks derived from the use of medications once they have been commercialized.

It studies the use and effects of medications in patients, generates signals or alerts about possible drug-related adverse reactions, investigates these signals by starting up, when necessary, new studies to quantify the risk and to establish the causal relationship.

After evaluating all available information pharmacovigilance takes the necessary measures and report the risk and the measures taken to healthcare professionals and patients in order to prevent such risk.
